Garden Club is Rumbo’s weekly drop-off outdoor learning programme for home‑educated children aged 5+
It’s a place where horticulture, floriculture and nature exploration come alive through hands‑on, joyfully low‑pressure sessions.
During half‑term holidays, Garden Club opens to all children, offering nature‑rich days that blend exploration, creativity and grounding time outdoors.
Nature‑rich, hands‑on learning for curious minds - nurturing confidence, connection and a deep love of the natural world.
WHAT TO EXPECT at garden club…..
Garden Club is a full‑day, drop‑off outdoor learning experience where children spend their time immersed in nature - moving freely between a carousel of hands‑on activities designed to spark curiosity, confidence and connection. In our beautiful outdoor space, children explore the Learning Lanes, tend to organic no‑dig vegetable beds, harvest edible flowers, and cut blooms straight from the garden for arranging and floristry. They dig, plant, water, compost, identify wildlife, and learn field to fork in the most tangible way: by growing real food and discovering where it comes from. Sessions flow gently through the day, with child‑led exploration at the heart - story trays, nature crafts, tools to use responsibly, bug hunts, weather watching, and quiet moments in the cabin’s calming nook when anyone needs a breather.
Our environment includes a greenhouse, a cosy cabin, a fire pit, lawn space and rich pockets of nature to explore - all intentionally designed to nurture wellbeing and wonder. As our prospectus says, “children learn by doing – not by watching or listening” and “there are no targets, no tests and no wrong answers.” Every activity is organic, sustainable and rooted in care for the earth: composting, water butts, soil ecology and seasonal gardening help children understand their surroundings and their impact on the natural world.
Led by Rumbo’s Founder - Rae - a qualified teacher, home‑educating mother, enhanced DBS holder and trained first aider - Garden Club offers a safe, relationship‑led environment where children are genuinely known, supported and encouraged to explore at their own pace. With a minimum of two adults present at all times, a grounding practice to close each session, and a calm, nurturing ethos throughout, Garden Club is a place where childhood unfolds outdoors: joyful, messy, meaningful and deeply connected to the natural world.
