About us…..
“Rumbo” is a Spanish word meaning ‘course’ or ‘direction’. It speaks to the path we choose towards a destination or goal. For us, it symbolises purpose, movement and intentionality - making it the perfect name for our home education and world schooling community.
Hi, I’m Rae!
I’m a mother, educator, adventurer and passionate advocate for experiential, child-led learning. After 10 years of teaching in the traditional education system, I realised it no longer aligned with my family values, honoured my holistic understanding of education and child development, or met my children’s needs. So I made a bold choice: to step away from conventional schooling and embrace a life of home education and worldschooling with my two children, X and S.
The Birth of Rumbo
RUMBO is the result of that journey - a vibrant community created to support families with primary-aged children who are seeking an alternative approach to education, as well as those curious about adding more hands-on, creative, and real-life experiences beyond school. I know first-hand how overwhelming it can feel to step outside the traditional system, which is why Rumbo exists as a companion for both the transition and the journey that follows. Whether you’re just beginning or refining your path, Rumbo offers a personal approach - bringing together resources, guidance and connections to help you and your family thrive.
What We Offer
Through carefully curated ‘learning experience plans’, creative activity ideas, nature based learning, courses, videos, a travel blog and resource directory, Rumbo gathers everything needed to create a fulfilling, meaningful learning experience. But more than resources, Rumbo is about community - a space where parents and carers can share insights, build networks and strengthen both their confidence and their children’s education.
Our Philosophy
For us, education is more than academics. It’s about nurturing emotional well-being, cultivating empathy and critical thinking, instilling healthy habits and equipping children with the ability to navigate the world with understanding, compassion and confidence. It’s about strengthening family bonds and developing practical, hands-on skills that prepare children for life.
By prioritising family time, we create safe, supportive environments for exploration, problem-solving and meaningful interactions across different ages and cultures. Socialisation happens naturally every day through real-world experiences, not just within the confines of a classroom.
Learning Without Limits
School is just a place. Education is what truly matters - and it isn’t confined to a building. It unfolds in everyday moments: in conversations with people from all walks of life, in the heart of a bustling market, in calm moments at bedtime, across vast landscapes of nature, in baking together in the kitchen and in the creation of new family traditions.
The world is changing rapidly with technology, and the world we know today will look very different by the time our primary-aged children step into adulthood. It is vital that we equip them not only with practical skills but also with our presence, guidance and support.
Through RUMBO, I hope to inspire families to embrace experiential learning, cultivate meaningful relationships and give children the freedom to see the world as their classroom.
